Intent Implementation Impact

At Cowley St Laurence CE Primary School our PE curriculum is underpinned by the 3 core principles from our curriculum vision: Knowledge, Curiosity, Success

KNOWLEDGE: We use the National Curriculum guidelines to develop a rich, challenging and exciting PE curriculum where children can build upon and make connections in their knowledge, with purposeful outcomes.

CURIOSTIY:  Our PE curriculum is immersive, providing a clear context for learning and encouraging children’s curiosity and love of learning.

SUCCESS: The aim of the PE curriculum is to meet the needs of all learners, challenging them and enabling them to make progress and succeed from their starting points and in their future adult lives

At Cowley St Laurence CE Primary School, our PE curriculum and teaching intentions are implemented in the following ways:

  • Real PE schemes of work are aligned to the National curriculum
  • It focuses on the development of agility, balance, coordination, healthy competition, and cooperative learning (The school Games Mark).
  • Each unit of work has a different focus (Real PE cogs) and children participate in high- quality PE lessons twice a week.
  • Emphasis on different key abilities necessary for achievement in PE and sport and across the curriculum.
  • Teachers have high expectations of pupils and offer appropriate levels of provision and challenge to ensure that every pupil is able to succeed and every pupils is stretched in each PE lesson.
  • The Real PE learning nutrition document is used to support teaching and learning and encourage pupil- led learning.
  • The child- friendly assessment statement (Real PE Cogs) are used in lessons to ensure consistency through the key stage and to ensure pupils are aware of their own progress, strengths and challenges.

Our PE curriculum has high aspirations for all pupils, irrespective of background or starting point.

Teachers have received training to enhance their subject knowledge and improve their confidence and over time, they are more confident teaching PE and it is taught at a high standard.
